New Visa Applications
New applications for Temporary Sponsored Parent visa have been accepted since July 1, 2019.
The visa – first promised before the 2016 federal elections – is being made available this year following legislation that was binding on the federal parliament in October last year.
“The visa provides parents with a new pathway to temporarily reunite with their children and grandchildren in Australia, while ensuring that taxpayers are not required to cover additional costs.” informs the DOHA in the official release note.”
Sponsorship Applications
Sponsorship applications will be open from 17 April 2019 and will cost $420.00. Sponsor must be over 18 years with no adverse information and meet the minimum household threshold, along other requirements.
For the visa applicant, some of the requirements include have a sponsorship approved, present health insurance and access to funds.
“A parent will be able to hold visas up to a total stay in Australia of 10 years, reflecting that the visa is a temporary visa and does not lead to permanent residence.”
Visa applications must be submitted within 6 months from sponsorship approval and it will costs $5,000 for a visa of up to three years’ duration; and $10,000 for a visa of up to five years’ duration.
The visa application charge is payable in two installments, with one payment at time of application and the remainder paid prior to visa grant.
Visa holders will generally be subject to a “no work” condition. There is a cap of 15,000 visas that can be approved per financial year.
The parent visa is a wonderful opportunity to reunite families again.
